Everyone know what’s up with the new garbage and recycling cans?

In case you don’t, the Daily Herald yesterday published an article with some more explanation about them.

An informational flier was distributed to residents in recent weeks. Apparently, Trustee Humpfer wasn’t very happy that the information was translated in Spanish, but hopefully it helped out those residents who might have otherwise had questions about the new program and waste containers.

While they look nice, not everyone is happy with them. Apparently the size of the containers have proven to be more of a problem than previously considered. At last week’s Board meeting, a resident came forward to talk about the size of the containers and where they are to be placed for pickup — blocking sidewalks.

In order for the new containers to be picked up by the automatic arms on trucks, these need to be placed right at the edge of the curb. There are a number of places in the Village where the sidewalk runs immediately adjacent to the street. So that means that to comply with the new garbage pickup specifications, the containers must be put on the sidewalk, which can create a problem for pedestrians trying to make their way down one of these streets.

Also, a note to residents who have a one-car garage and are having trouble finding a place for the new carts: the board will be discussing the issue Aug. 21. Check the Village website for details.
