It seems that the Longmeadow Parkway/Bolz Rd bridge project hit a bit of a snag on Thursday (Aug 14) after presentations showed that it might not relieve as much congestion as originally thought …  which could be good or bad, depending on who you ask.

Some have expressed concern that there will be “40,000 vehicles” crossing the bridge daily and “raining down pollution” on the surrounding neighborhoods.  However, 2 proposals show that if this were a local toll bridge, traffic would approach nothing close to that mark.

One proposal said that 16,000 vehicles daily would cross the bridge at 50-cents per toll, and only 4,000 would at a proposed $2.50 (Who the hell is thinking $2.50 for this thing?!  And who thinks that even 4,000 people will pay $5 a day — $25 per week; $1,250 year– for it?!)

What is unknown is how long tolls at those levels would need to be in place to pay for the construction, etc.

Perhaps it would be better for the mayors in the 10 towns that signed on to this, along with all the members of the Task Force, to put pressure on the state and federal officials to obtain the necessary funding to get this crossing built … instead of making it a toll bridge.

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 16 … when they are expected to get construction cost estimates (which are as of yet unknown).

I just got done listening to Trustee Judy Sigwalt rant and rave about this site, and that of Village President Bill Sarto, during the broadcast of the August 5, 2008 Village Board meeting tonite on Comcast.

She is an absolute joke! And the more she talks, the worse she sounds.

First of all, let me say that contrary to her postulations, this site is completely independent of that of President Sarto (“About Carpentersville”).  At the Board meeting, she used her Trustee report to attempt to discredit this site and that of President Sarto.

She called the things on this blog false, malicious and lies.  Yet she has never provided one piece of information contrary to the things posted on this site. Probably because she knows its the truth.

It seems obvious that Judy is just ticked off that this site has pointed out the truth; and it has shown her true colors.

Then, Sigwalt tries to defend another fellow ally on the Board, Kay Teeter … and fails miserably.

She reads a comment from Dave Reece that appeared on “About Carpentersville”.  The comment refers to a file of code enforcement violations reported on the residence of Trustee Kay Teeter.

Sigwalt asks Community Development Director Cindy McCammack about the conversation that Reece reports he had with Ms. McCammack.   McCammack responds: “I don’t recall.”

Sigwalt then asks if there is a file on Trustee Teeter.  McCammack confirms the existence of a file.

Seeming to be trapped at this point, Sigwalt responds in typical “Judy” fashion, asking “Is it ‘an inch and a half thick’”?

Apparently, she wants people to think that it’s the number of violations … not the fact that they exist (and by a member of the Carpentersville Improvement Committee no less!)

This is similar to the tack taken in defending Mr. Humpfer after his conviction of domestic battery on his wife.  Sigwalt’s contention was that striking one’s wife with a baseball bat wasn’t a serious enough crime; expecting people to ignore the fact that a sitting Trustee was convicted of a crime at all (and one that would have been charged as a felony in “normal” circumstances.)

Sorry, Judy, but we’re done being fooled by your double-talk … just go away.

… But thanks for reading this site.  :)

Did you catch what happened down in Elgin in the past few days?

City Councilman Mike Powers resigned from his position Monday after admitting to violating the city’s ethics code by failing to disclose a prior business arrangement with the Chicago Bandits women’s softball team before voting last May in favor of the measure that brought the franchise to Elgin.

Powers had accepted $3,000 from the Chicago Bandits organization “as a fee for providing marketing work” but then did not abstain from voting to allow the team to play on the field at Judson University — a measure that passed unanimously.

Clearly, Powers should have disclosed the business relationship with the Bandits, and should have not cast a vote on the matter when it came before the City Council in May — so his resignation is something to be viewed with integrity…even though his vote became otherwise insignificant in the unanimous decision.

But … Powers’ problems really seem like small potatoes when compared to what has gone on in Carpentersville at the hands of Trustees Judy Sigwalt and Paul Humpfer.

Folks may recall that, for a year or longer, Sigwalt and Humpfer inappropriately used Village conference rooms for undisclosed meetings with Fox Valley Citizens for Legal Immigration.  Those meetings reportedly — according to published comments from Humpfer — discussed Village business using the “Trustee packets” containing Village Board briefs and potential information only to be discussed privately in Executive Session.

These actions prompted Village Manager Craig Anderson to direct Sigwalt, Humpfer, and Fox Valley Citizens to cease using the meeting rooms.  Additionally, it prompted a letter from the Attorney General’s office, relating to violations of the Open Meetings Act.

Despite these improprieties, Sigwalt and Humpfer both continue to sit on the Village Board.  (And Humpfer does so even after being found guilty of hitting his wife with a baseball bat during a domestic dispute in May 2007 and not even residing in the Village of Carpentersville for more than a year!)

Just another reason Carpentersville has earned such a bad reputation.
