Glad you asked. I won’t go down the usual path of suggesting we should end our village board’s infighting, that’s obvious and has been stated many times, many ways. I think the road infrastructure plan is headed in the right direction, and there’s a clear vision, but it is going to take time. As for economic development, while this is certainly not a novel concept, we need to have continued focus on that Route 25 corridor and the Spring Hill Mall restaurant outlots. While I don’t think a big, new store on Rt. 25, or a couple good restaurants at Spring Hill will serve as a panecea to all of Carpentersville’s woes, much like the road infrastructure plan, it’s a start.

Improvements should really be one smart decision after another. Obviously, even one bad decision can negate many good things. I doubt that Carpentersville is going to be able to hit a home run anywhere.
Certainly, improvements in the road infrastructure would be helpful.
As SAM stated, addressing the vacancies on Rte 25 and Spring Hill Mall outlots would also be a good step.
In addition, I would suggest a stong push by the city officials for Neighborhood Watch groups, and community, church and school outreach events between citizens and the town officials (police, firemen, town workers, everyone). Carpentersville does have somewhat of a bad reputation with regards to crime, race relations, etc., but this need not be the case. With effort, this can be changed.
Speaking of public relations, I think the media could be handled much better by our public officials. I do believe that certain elements within the city leadership are generating and enabling sensationalist stories for media consumption for their own political ends, and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon. However my point here is that the city leaders and the city employees who are not stirring the pot out of politics haven’t been very effective in mitigating the p.r. damage.
Also, is the lawsuit against the city still ongoing? This needs to be resolved quietly. If this ends loudly, with lots of media coverage, regardless of the outcome it will be bad for Carpentersville. Its mostly out of the hands of the city at this point, unless the city wants to negotiate a settlement (which I doubt as C’ville cannnot afford what is being asked).
