Personally, I don’t find the idea of selling confiscated or turned-in guns to a Federal Firearms Licensed dealers (FFL) to be a significant issue. Those previously used by law enforcement might be an exception I’d take.
A few families in our community that lost loved ones to gun violence this year may have a different take, I would guess. For them, I’m sure that the fewer guns on the streets, the better.
At the last meeting of the Village Board, a vote was taken on selling guns presently possessed by the Police Department. It didn’t involve very much debate. The vote was 4-3 in favor is approving the sale of these guns to an FFL dealer. The sale was estimated to net $3,000 (a pittance in relation to an approximately $30 million annual budget).
While some cities will sell these weapons, most will typically destroy them. Though I can see the rationale for both, it might be worthwhile to sell a particularly rare, collector-type gun that would bring a more significant amount. Sometimes valuable guns are unknowingly turned in to police, either through a gun buyback program, or by those who no longer want them and do not know how to otherwise dispose of them.
In a report prepared for the Village Board on this agenda item at the last meeting, Police Chief Neumann states “Some municipalities mandate the destruction of all firearms that come into their possession once any law enforcement use for them is completed. This policy is based on the belief that the community is safer when weapons are not recirculated, and that a weapon sold by the department could possibly be used in a future crime.” (emphasis added)
Based on that information from the Police Chief, it would would seem the community might be best served by destroying these weapons.
In light of that, Village President Bill Sarto vetoed the approval of the sale.
It upset some of those in “the backroom” however … and the following email was sent to members of the Board and some others close to Carpentersville politics, from someone who has posted regularly to this blog in support of Sigwalt and Co (one of a seeming trio of cronies):
Date: Sun, 02 Dec 2007 10:37:28 -0500
Subject: {no subject}“This violates our mission statement to protect the public interest and welfare of the residents,” Sarto said. “It runs counter to the mission of law enforcement, and that would be to serve and protect the welfare of the community.”
???????MISSION STATEMENT???????
After writing a letter to the editor of the Courier in 2000 almost demanding that something be done about the illegal’s and now he claims that there are NONE, because nobody can provide numbers of the invisible invaders to our country. A-Hole!
Again, he makes a claim the seems to say he does not trust OUR police department. Our Police can’t decide things on it’s own, it has to have his direct involvement for it to be proper. I trust the police to do their duty and they know what it is. I don’t think Sourto understands his JOB. To do what the people want by a majority vote, but only what he thinks is good for his children!
GEEZ, what happened to letting the “FEDERAL GOVERNMENT” take care of things like that.
I thought Bill-Bob thought that anything outside of Village business has to be dealt with by the FED’s!
So, the answer is to throw the baby out with the dirty water?
Oft said statement, guns don’t kill people, people kill people!
Lizzy Borden used an axe, Jeffery Dalmer used his teeth. President Truman used a million ton device that killed instantly 160,000 and more over the years.
Talk about distortion! For cry-pete! These guys are desperate.
Folks may recall earlier email ramblings and rantings from another that were along the same lines, just on a different subject.
Anyway …
First, to specifically call Sarto an “A–hole”; That in itself is unbelievable that anyone would think it appropriate.
Next, are we still talking about illegal immigration? Sheesh … I thought everyone said they were done with that issue for now. Kinda shows you that it will be brought up again and again whenever it is convenient.
So, what about the real issue? Easy enough to correct all the errors here.
1. The “letter to the editor” was to the Daily Herald. It may have appeared in the Courier-News too, but there was recent referral to its appearance in the Herald.
2. The “letter to the editor” by Sarto in 2000 regarding illegal immigration was about federal enforcement.
3. Sarto never claimed there were “none”. Rather, he stated — rightly — there was no evidence provided that showed that illegal immigration was responsible for the problems that were being attributed to it in Carpentersville. That is a significant distinction that these folks like to distort.
4. Sarto also never said anything that even hinted that “he didn’t trust OUR police department.” On the contrary, he cited the words of a report by OUR Police Chief.
5. It is a part of governance of the Village that the issue on this sale be considered and decided by the Board. It is also the right of the Village President, as the chief executive officer of the Village, to veto measures that he deems to be not in the best interest of the Village and community.
6. Sarto has no children.
7. This issue is not “outside of Village business”, therefore such statements about the “FEDs” are just plain foolishness.
If you received an email such as the above, that called you derogatory names, do you think you would be cordial in your reply? (I think I probably would not reply at all … and would hit the delete button. If I were Sarto, I would do exactly that. Someone who writes such things doesn’t deserve the courtesy. If you expect a reply, you will write respectfully. In contrast, all my correspondence with the Board and Village officials have been respectful and courteous. One wonders why they will humor these jokers while ignoring the respectful requests of their constituents … well, in reality we saw why they won’t answer in “The Trouble with Carpentersville” series last week. )
This is the kind of crap that our elected officials have to deal with, folks. This is what these “winners” keep our elected officials’ time wrapped up with. For being a significant minority of the population, they apparently take up a majority of time and are often behind the drive for particular actions in the Village.

You believe that the discussion has been shelved by everyone, NOT!
And the song goes on, these people have NO regard for rules and laws. That is why they are here! Of course some people don’t believe that fact, they want numbers, as if these people would report themselves.
Rolling Meadows men accused of identity theft
By Gene Haschak | Daily Herald Staff
Published: 12/5/2007 12:34 AM
Two Rolling Meadows roommates were accused Monday of using a Carpentersville man’s personal information to get jobs, credit and loans.
Emilio Velazquez-Villa, 30 and Gabriel Fuentes-Garcia, 26, both of 4964 Algonquin Parkway #A, were charged with identity theft, according to court records.
Velazquez-Villa also was charged with two counts of possession of fraudulent identification cards and was wanted on warrants from DuPage and Cook counties, police said.
The victim told police that when he attempted to obtain employment benefits earlier this year, Social Security informed him he was employed at a Woodfield mall restaurant.
When he tried to get a credit card, he was informed he had multiple delinquent accounts totaling more than $17,600, police said.
Velazquez-Villa bought the fraudulent Social Security and resident alien card for $70 eight years ago in Georgia, police said.
Velazquez-Villa used the two cards to get jobs at five different businesses in Schaumburg, police said.
Fuentes-Garcia used the two cards to get a job at a Woodfield mall restaurant because he did not have papers to legally work in this country, police said.
Fuentes-Garcia posted $2,000 bond but was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents Tuesday.
Velazquez-Villa was taken to the Kane County jail with a $10,000 bond, but ICE also placed a hold on him.
The two men have scheduled court dates on Dec. 19 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Only “illegals” break our laws, right? Only “illegals” commit identity theft, right?
Yes, the law was broken, and these people need to be punished for doing so.
But to single them out as though they were the only lawbreakers in our country …
A recent report said it would cost about $94 billion to deport all the illegal immigrants in this country presently. I also read that, at a rate of 250 deportations per day, it would take over 100 years to deport all those presently here (using what some consider a conservative figure of 12 million). And that is only if not a single person entered this country illegally again.
So … we can keep up this charade that local governments can do something, or even that state governments can do something. But the truth of the matter is that we need increased border security in addition to significant immigration reform that also addresses those already in this country with something other than a threat of deportation — cuz that just ain’t gonna work.

As I have said previously, get out of the house and buy a paper! It is NOT just Carpentersville, it is not just three trustee’s and it certainly is not just me.
Like you, I speak my mind, with errors put in so that you have something to complain about. ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL When an M-13 gang member is on your street, be sure to cower in fear and realize you could have made a difference, but not it is too late!

Va. Coalition To Focus On Illegal Immigration
By Nick Miroff
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, December 5, 2007; Page B01
County and city leaders from several Virginia jurisdictions have formed a group to push for tougher measures against illegal immigrants, the latest sign that local governments in the state will look for ways to act while immigration reform remains stalled in Congress.
The Coalition on Illegal Aliens will consider the impact of illegal immigrants on residential overcrowding, crime, public services and other quality-of-life concerns while developing proposals for state and local laws. The coalition will also look at measures designed to punish employees who hire illegal immigrants and landlords who house them.

Wow! What a completely unintelligent comment.
“What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
Re: Va. Coalition To Focus On Illegal Immigration
That’s all well and good (except that they also appear to be looking at the same things that have presently been deemed unconstitutional under federal law — and don’t regurgitate the crap about it being “one judge”. Aside from the fact that we’ve already covered that, the fact remains that until such time comes that it is overturned, the ruling stands as handed down), but what does that mean for Illinois? Is Virginia going to be able to accurately study and determine the impact of these things in Illinois? What will that do for for other states and municipalities across the nation?
One word: nothing.
However, there will be those who will latch on to their stats and make baseless statements extending those stats to other contexts and jurisdictions.
It’s short-sighted, naive and ineffective to try to deal with federal issues at a state or municipal level. In fact, it is such backwards thinking that is actually responsible for perpetuating the very problems it is trying to solve.
If all those who are putting their energies toward isolated, limited policies and enforcement were to direct themselves to the appropriate levels, something might actually get done. But, instead, these groups sit around and talk and do nothing, and even vote for people who are nothing but talk.
People have been talking illegal immigration since the Reagan era (and even further back) … does it ever occur to anyone else that they have no intention of doing anything significant about it?! If they did fix the problem, they wouldn’t be able to trot it out when it served them now would they?
Wake up and realize that you are being/have been duped!

Above, you’ve seen my response to the email. Now read Mr. Sarto’s response.
It seems obvious in Mr. Sarto’s response that this is not the first contact he has had with this person. Apparently there have been other emails that follow along the same discourteous tone.
I feel Mr. Sarto’s reply was very appropriate considering. I commend Mr. Sarto for keeping this above board and not falling prey to the seemingly commonplace tactics that some of our other Board members seem quite willing to condone.

You still have the concept in that tiny liberal mind that the discussion about ILLEGAL’S in Carpentersville is all but over. Tain’t so, it is alive and well, thank you very much. Keep in mind that we just want to save your life!
As I suggested once before, go to Google and put in a search for illegals, you may find news of your future Carpentersville Rapist, Murderer OR whatever! Sure, Americans do those things, is the oft meantioned statement my the weak hearts in America, however, being here illegally means it should NEVER have happened.

You who hides under your mother’s skirts!
As I have said and proven before, Mr. Sarto started the insults. Something that demanded a reply in same! Otherwise I would not be a FREE CITIZEN of America!
Oh, as far as insults, I will at this time continue my practice of informing Dictator Sarto of all of his short comings. 1. It is my right, he chose to be elected and appointed Humpfer and now denies him! 2. I know the man and what he is, a liar and deceitful man! He has no concept of truth!
I will of course stop visiting this place as it is run by one of the MOST spiteful person that talks about others as he/she/it claims others are doing. Throwing stones?

If find it interesting that you find something “idiotic” and “incoherent” when in fact Mr. Tom Roeser and his wife both enjoyed my letters to the editor of the Barrington Courier Review, at least he said so when he was making one of his visit’s to the VFW during a Citzens for Legal Immigration meeting. Ask him, he knows how to tell the truth and I still like the man although I don’t like his attitude about ILLEGAL’S in Carpentersviile.

Well … No one on the Board wants to discuss it. They tabled discussion of it.
Sure, people are discussing it. But all some Board members will do is to allow time to be wasted listening to inane comments about something they won’t discuss.
I probably do this more than you … although my search horizons are wider than just “illegals”.
Please! I can’t believe you expect us to trust, with your (and others’) track record even in these comments, that you’ve been respectful in your correspondence.

Bill Sarto
Dear “Annie”,
When all of this illegal immigration stuff came up over a year ago. I received countless emails and unsigned letters from many who didn’t even live in Carpentersville calling me all sorts of defamatory names and impugning my leadership of the Village and me personally.
You my friend, joined the chorus of those chronic complainers and did use the same type of character assassination as did many others. You sent me many, sometimes as many at 10 emails a day, meant only to be inflammatory and degrading to me personally and to a certain group of people who live in our Village. You used racist terms and pictures in those emails.
It has been my practice to personally respond to all constituent concerns. But, as my in-box continued to fill up with these same unfounded complaints day after day, I did ask that those sending me these repetitious emails to please stop and remove me from the list that included a former United States Senator, a former state Senator, the president and vice-President of the United States and many other elected officials and even the media.
After several attempts to have you stop, I did on occasion point out that your emails were indeed racist and vile in both content and tone.
There is no doubt that name calling was part of your plan. You began by calling me such things as Billy-Bob and other much worse things as shown in the post presented by the person who moderates this blog site. Your obvious hatred for me is so apparent it seems to drip off the pages of your comments.
It is important to point out the truth in all of this. This is the plan that has been followed by many, to disrupt and point fingers. To stir up as much controversy as possible and then try to place the blame on others.

Does anyone know if all of these lawsuits and selling of the guns made IRMA drop the village insurance?
Dec 7, 2007 at 8:04 pm

Rumor is that the Village has been on IRMA’s “watch list” for 4 years.
